2018 ST. LUKE'S ICEBREAKER INVITATIONAL
Congratulations to our 2018 Champions!
Thank you to all teams for coming and we hope you had a fantastic weekend of girls hockey! Full results can be found on 2018 Brackets page.
Hockey tournaments are the perfect opportunity for team bonding. And what better way to bond with your teammates than doing something for others? 15A Manager Rachel Royer, developed the idea to infuse a little 'feel good' into the team and create a memorable experience for each of the players.
With materials that were donated by Rachel and other team parents, the girls spent time during the All American Girl Tournament in Blaine putting together fleece tie blankets. During the Grand Rapids tournament in December the girls assembled a number of toiletry bags with personal items such as toothbrushes, soap, shampoo, conditioner and more.
Then during two separate visits, members of the 15A Icebreaker team personally delivered the donated items to Life House in Duluth. Life House is a local shelter for teens in the Duluth area. Over 700 youth visit the center annually and over 14,000 meals were provided last year alone. The girls received a tour from Life House Executive Director, Maude Dornfeld, who took them through various areas of the Shelter including apartments, daily needs area and the brand new store front where teens have developed their own line of Limitless Candles. The operation provides valuable skills and encourages free thinking and creativity.
Thank you ladies for your efforts this season! Icebreakers succeed when they make the world a little bit better than it was before.
Proud and honored to have our association featured in the October issue of USA Hockey. Click the link below to see where we started, our "why", and where we are headed, all in an effort to bring the best possible opportunities and experiences for girls wishing to play hockey in and around the Duluth, Minnesota, area.
To provide an enjoyable and competitive all-girls youth hockey program that offers a high level of personal development, both on and off the ice, giving girls the skills, knowledge, self-confidence and appreciation of commitment to be successful in life's future endeavors.
The DGHA believes in developing hockey opportunities for all girls in our area. Our success is derived from the hard work and commitment given by its players, volunteers and coaches. While nurturing an atmosphere of fun and recreation, we also try to provide the opportunity for achievement and a higher level of play for those who desire it. By participating in hockey, we believe that girls have an opportunity to become better stewards of their peers and society, while learning valuable lessons that they can apply later in life.
